Hands-on support
With a passion for both finance and computer science, I began my career at Bloomberg as an engineer building trading systems. This role provided me with the incredible opportunity to practice intrapreneurship, founding a new product line, and building an engineering team from the ground up. My love for creating from zero to one led me to leave the corporate world and join tech startups, where I continued my leadership journey, holding several senior manager/director positions in startups ranging from Series B to pre-IPO stages. In 2022, I took a leap of faith and built my first startup, successfully raising a pre-seed round. Currently, I am the founding staff engineer at Truewind.ai (YCW23), where I continue to build FinTech SaaS products. Over the past 15 years, I've mentored over 50 engineers, both within my workplaces and through various mentorship platforms.
My ideal mentees are engineers seeking career growth or a career change. Having worked at companies of different sizes and across various industries, both as an individual contributor and an engineering director, I offer unique insights on how to:
- Get promoted to the next level as an engineer
- Break into tech startups as an early hire or even found your own company
- Transition into a management role and land the position
I strongly believe in the importance of structure. In our initial call or trial period, we will align on the specific career goals you aim to achieve in the next 3 to 6 months. I will help you create a strategy and execution plan. During our video call sessions, we will review your progress, discuss learnings and challenges, and set the next set of action items. Between sessions, we will communicate asynchronously to review documents such as resumes, design docs, and pitch decks.

Awesome. I got a ton of value on the leadership and communication side. I came to Jia to help vet engineers but I am sticking with him even after finding a technical cofounder because I am learning how to better communicate with my partner, what kinds of expectations are reasonable for a startup looking for success, and even advice on how to work between product and sales to develop and operate the sales funnel for launch. Jia is a ton of value for where I am in my startup journey. Very happy and will continue.
